BMX TRACK
2006
Welcome
We would like to
Welcome you to Rye Airfield’s BMX Track.
Enclosed is some general information to help introduce you to the
awesome world of BMX racing.
Rye
Airfield is a Non-Profit Organization that offers BMX Racing every Saturday (weather permitting), where you can race
on the outdoor track, like you see on TV. You can race for points, plates or
trophies and you can see your name in a magazine with others your age doing the
same thing in your state, region and across the country. Bicycle MotoCross (BMX) Racing is making a comeback and you can be part of it. What
better way to hang out with friends and stay in shape.
Not
sure if you want to race, how about just practice. Rye Airfield holds Gate
Practice, every Wednesday (weather permitting), beginning May 17, from
6:00-7:30 pm, so you can go at your own pace.
And after a few practices you can try your first race for FREE and be
guaranteed a trophy. It is a
Win-Win.
This
is a great family sport which is made possible by volunteers who help run the
races and maintain the track. If you would like more information, simply log in
to ryeairfield.com or come to Rye Airfield on Saturdays to watch a race and ask
any questions that you may have.
Also please feel free to stay for the race that
will begin at 6pm. If you would like to
try this race, you are entitled to try it for FREE and will be guaranteed a
trophy. Registration will be from
5-5:30.
Again, please do not hesitate to ask any
questions.
Thank you again for stopping by.

Beginner Information Sheet
WELCOME to Rye Airfield BMX Track and the sport of BMX racing. BMX is not a team sport like baseball or
football, this is an individual sport.
BMX has no bench sitters – every rider gets into the action!
HAVE YOU REGISTERED? The
registration window is located at the Building to the left of the Gated
entrance to the BMX track. To register,
please present proof of age and have a parent or guardian fill out the
necessary form before 5:30, the close of registration. The race fee will be explained at
registration. If you are sharing
equipment, tell them in registration at this time.
EVERYONE HERE WILL RACE 3 TIMES TONIGHT. In the event that your rider has seven or more racers in his age
group, a fourth race called a “main” will be held after the 3rd
motos have been run. Don’t forget to
stop by the trophy window after the race – ALL NEW RIDERS WILL RECEIVE AN
AWARD!
MOTO SHEET? Please examine the
sample moto sheet on the attached sheet.
The moto sheets for today’s race will be posted about 10-15 minutes
before race time on the hanging on the fence on the north side of the
registration booth. You will need to
find your rider’s age class and the proficiency level of Rookie. The moto number on the left side of this
sheet is your riders’ moto for the day’s racing [i.e#5}. You will notice 3 numbers next to your
rider’s name; these numbers represent the position or “lane” the rider will be
starting in for his 1st. 2nd and 3rd race. As you can see the lane changes, but the
moto number will remain the same.
RECORD both the MOTO NUMBER and LANES.
Keep this information handy. The
rider needs to be in the staging area behind the starting hill 10 motos before
his moto.
IS THE BIKE SAFE? A BMX bike is
required to have specific safety gear to protect the rider. The bike must have all three pads; frame,
handlebar, and goosenecks. (If you
don’t have pads for your bike, a set can be borrowed from the concession stand
for today’s race.) The handlebars must
have hand grips in good condition; no torn ends. Pedals must be of rubber or metal type and in sound working
condition. Tires must not be bald or
dangerously worn out. All bikes must
have working brakes, wither hand or coaster type. The following items must be removed: kickstand, chain guard,
reflectors, and reflector brackets, all bells and horns. No long bolts over 1/4 inch allowed. Each bike must have a number plate. This number identifies your rider while
racing on the track and is used for scoring as he or she crosses the finish
line. For these reasons the number
plate must be clean and LEGIBLE.
Numbers must be free of stickers.
Numbers should be 6 inches high.
You will be asked at registration “What number do you have on your
bike?” If you do not have a number
plate, the clerk at registration will provide you with a temporary paper number
plate to be taped between the handlebars for today’s race.
WHAT TO WEAR? All riders must
wear a helmet with a chin strap and mouth protection. Long-sleeved shirt or short sleeve shirt with elbow pads. Long pants of strong heavy material {i.e.
denim with the right pant leg wrapped with tape or Velcro}. Secure fitting soft-soled shoes. Socks recommended. Gloves are also recommended, but not required. If you do not have a helmet or mouth
protection for your helmet, you can rent these safety items for today’s race at
the concession stand. BE READY to race
when your moto is called.
STARTING HILL? Parents may
assist 6 & Under Boys and 7 & Under Girls to balance on the starting
gate. Parents cannot touch the bike or
rider with their hands when assisting on the starting gate. (Someone on the starting hill will
demonstrate the correct stance.)
Parents must exit down the back of the starting hill. At no times during the race is a parent
allowed on the track or berms.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
