WAIVERS
Q. Does everyone have to sign a waiver?
Yes. Everyone wishing to skate or ride at Rye Airfield has to have a valid
waiver on file.
Q. If I’m under 18 do my parents have
to sign my waiver?
Yup. If you are under 18 the waiver MUST be signed by a parent or legal guardian
in front of one of our staff members.
Q. What if my parent or legal guardian can’t come to sign the waiver?
Don’t worry, you can still skate, you just have to get the waiver notarized
before you come. You can download a waiver from this website then have your
parents sign it in front of a notary public. The notary public will sign and
stamp the waiver and then all you need to do is bring the waiver with you.
Q. Where can I find a notary public?
Most libraries, banks, post offices, and court houses have notary publics.
Q. Do I have to fill out a waiver every time I come
to Rye Airfield?
Nope. Once you are in our computer system, you are good to go. We’ll
ask you to update the waiver once a year, but you don’t have to fill
it out every time to come to ride or skate.
Q. I want to bring my child’s friend to
the park, can I sign the waiver for them? Sorry, but no. The
waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. The best way to make
sure your child’s friend can skate or ride is to have the parent or
legal guardian sign the waiver and get it notarized by a notary public.
SESSIONS
Q. What are the session
times?
Our week day session times are Tuesday through Friday 3:00 pm to 5:45 pm and
6:00 pm to 8:45 pm. Our weekend sessions are Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am to
11:45 am, 12 noon to 2:45 pm, 3:00 pm to 5:45 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:45 pm.
Q. How much does a session
cost?
Each session costs $12 for non-members ($14 on weekends and during holiday/vacation periods) and $8 for members. You can also buy
a day pass on weekends for $30 for non-members ($33 on weekends and during holiday/vacation periods) and $20 for members.
Q. Can I pay for a session and then skate half
of this one then half of next session?
Our session times are pretty specific. So it’s best if you get here
right when the session starts because we only offer one price for each session
so you pay the same if you get here at the beginning of the session or right
near the end.
PASSES
AND GROUP RATES
Q. Do you have season
passes and how much do they cost?
We have season passes that enable the pass holder to skate or ride any time
we are open at no cost. Season passes cost $499 and are good for 365 days
from date of purchase.
Q. What about Memberships,
how much are those?
Our Memberships last for 365 days from date of purchase and give the membership
pass holder discounts on camps, lessons, 30 day passes and food in our concession
stand as well as reducing the cost of a session from $12 & $14 to $8 and reducing
the cost of a day pass from $30 & $33 to $20.
Q. Are there any other passes?
Yes. Our 30 day passes cost $65 for non-members and $49 for members and are
good for 30 days from date of purchase. The 30 day pass allows the pass holder
to skate or ride any session within a 30 day period at no cost. It’s
a great bargain if you want to skate often but can’t afford the season
pass.
Q. My child’s school group wants to come
to Rye Airfield. What group
rates do you offer? For groups of more than 15 we offer a
discounted rate of $9 each. If your group is interested incoming to Rye Airfield,
contact us at (603) 964-2800 and we will set you up with a group
letter and group waiver so you can be sure that everyone in your group can
skate or ride.
Q. Can I rent the park and how much does it
cost?
Absolutely. The park is available to rent any time outside of our normal sessions.
It’s the best way to enjoy the park if you want it all for you and your
friends. Park rentals cost $150 an hour with a minimum of two hours required.
So if you get 30 friends together, and you each pay $10, you can rent the
park for two hours and have it all to yourself.
EQUIPMENT
Q. Do you rent
equipment such as bikes, skateboards or roller blades?
Rye Airfield currently rents pads & helmets and skateboards. We do not rent bikes or inline skates at this point.
Q. Do you have to wear a helmet
and pads?
Yes, we require every participant to wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads.
Q. Why do I have to wear pads if I’m over
18?
The reason behind this is to keep the cost of skating and riding as low as
possible. By requiring everyone to wear full pads, the cost of our insurance
is lower than it would be. So instead of paying more for insurance and being
forced to charge more for each session, we pay less for insurance so you can
pay less to come and ride or skate. Plus we really do care about your safety.
And if you’re wearing pads, instead of really hurting yourself you can
just get up and keep skating or riding.
Q. I don't have any pads. Do you rent them and how much are they?
Helmets and pads are available for rent. The cost is $3 for elbow pads, $3 for knee pads or both sets for $5. Helmets are $5.
LESSONS
Q. Is they're an age limit to lessons?
We believe that skateboarding, BMX and inline are for everyone so we don’t
have a minimum or maximum age. As long as you are willing to give it a try,
we are ready to show you how.
Q. What do they teach you in the lessons?
Our instructors teach you exactly you need to know. First they figure out
what you can already do, then they ask what you want to learn. Then they simply
help
you get from where you are to where you want to be.
Q. How much do private lessons cost?
Private lessons include one hour of one on one instruction and a session pass
so that you can practice everything you learn. The cost is $35 for non-members
and $30 for members.
Q. What do you require for a group lesson?
We require a minimum of 3 participants for a group lesson. The cost is $25
each for non-members and $25 each for members.
Q. My kid has never ridden a skateboard before,
do you recommend a lesson? Lessons are recommended. It just
makes learning to BMX, skateboard or inline so much easier, especially if
you haven’t skated or ridden at a park before.
Q. Who do I talk to about getting a lesson?
Lessons should be booked at least a day in advance (at least two days in advance
for weekend lessons). Call us at (603) 964-2800 to book a lesson.
The earlier you call in advance, the better.
RAMP CAMP
Q. Why is it called Ramp Camp?
We decided to call camp at Rye Airfield “Ramp Camp” because we
want to do things different from every other camp. We came up with new ideas
like our sticker rewards program where we give you stickers when you learn
new tricks to help you track your progress and learn faster. Plus our ramps
are among the raddest in the world, so what better name for our camp than
Ramp Camp.
Q. How much does a week of Ramp
Camp cost?
Sessions of Ramp Camp start as low as $79 depending upon when the sessions are. To check out the most up to date
session pricing and information click here. These prices are
quite low compared to other camps so be sure to book early for the best deals.
Q. Who teaches Ramp Camp?
We have four levels of teachers, CITs, Counselors, Instructors, and Guest
Pros. Counselors In Training (CIT’s) are talented kids who wish to become
counselors later on. Counselors are the best local skateboarders, rollerbladers
and bikers in the area. Many of them are our regular Rye Airfield staff. Instructors
are amateur athletes on the verge of making it big many have shop or flow
sponsors, which means they get free products. Guest pros are professional
athletes who skateboard, BMX or inline for a living.
Q. How can I sign my child up for camp?
To sign up for camp or if you have any additional camp related questions,
give Nels a call at (603) 964-2800 ex. 13
EVENTS
Q. Do you have any competitions planned and
how can I find out about them? We are constantly planning
new events and contests. Check the calendar on this web site or call (603)-964-2800
for the most current information.
ABOUT RYE AIRFIELD
Q. Is Rye Airfield an old airport?
It used to be an airport, the land was used to as a landing strip for small
planes. Rye Airfield is named for the landing strip it was built on.
Who built the park?
Our 50,000 square foot indoor park was build by Jack Murphy Productions. The
concrete pools were done by R.C.M.C. skateparks. Our outdoor BMX race track
was designed by Jack Bontorno and built by Tom Ritzenthaller of the National
Bicycle League. The outdoor dirt jump area was built by Rye Airfield staff
and local riders.
Q. Do you make a lot of money?
Actually, Rye Airfield is a non-profit organization. So we aren’t even
trying to make money, we’re just trying to break even. The project all
started with the community in mind with the goal of giving the youth of the
seacoast, New Hampshire area and surrounding communities a place to skateboard,
blade and bike.
RULES
Q. Are bikes allowed to ride in the park all
the time?
Yes. With the exception of the concrete pools and beginner and intermediate
street areas, bikes have access to the whole park during every single session.
Q. What are your rules?
Everyone must wear pads (so you don’t get hurt) No skating in the halls
(so you don’t take someone out by accident). No food or drink in the
park (so nothing gets spilled and the ramps stay clean). No fighting (because
Mike Tyson doesn’t skateboard). No smoking (so you don’t start
a fire). Deliberate damages to the park will be prosecuted (because we take
care of our park like it’s an antique car and we won’t put up
with someone trying to wreck it).
OTHER
Q. When did Rye Airfield open?
April 13, 2002
Q. Can I just come down to watch and does it
cost anything to do that?
It’s free to watch and we have plenty of seating and viewing space,
so come on down.
Q. How
do I get to Rye Airfield?
Click the directions link on this web page (it’s at the bottom of list
of options on the home page) then hop in your car and drive here.
Q. Why don’t you have stuff on the walls?
We wanted to start with the walls as a blank slate and take input from our
customers on what they wanted to see up there. If you have something you think
will be cool, let us know. We have plans for blown up photos and graffiti
in the very near future.
